STORIES AND SONGS OF STOMPIN' TOM

Brockville Arts Centre

The Brockville Arts Centre & Whiskey Jack Present:
STORIES AND SONGS OF STOMPIN' TOM

Since Whiskey Jack's inception 45+ years ago, their fans have been showering them with accolades, celebrating their songs and stories. But the one constant that has fueled their success is what brings the crowds to their feet each night - a polished show exuding charm, ease and playfulness, qualities welcomed in this post Covid world. Since day 1, band leader Duncan Fremlin has been welcoming elite members of the Canadian music community to the Whiskey Jack family.

Success took off in the 1980's when the band was invited to host their own "Ol' Back Porch" segment on CBC TV's Tommy Hunter Show. Then, when Stompin' Tom resumed his career, he called Duncan and invited Whiskey Jack to join him in the studio to record his acclaimed album, "Dr. Stompin' Tom... Eh?". These two Canadian musical institutions would continue to perform and record together until Tom's death in 2014. Those years with Stompin' Tom were the seeds that blossomed into the show they tour with today, Stories & Songs of Stompin' Tom.

Today, Duncan is joined by two-time Juno nominee, Douglas John Cameron, acclaimed bass player James McEleney, and Stompin' Tom's favourite fiddler, from PEI, Billy MacInnis. These seasoned veterans carry the Whiskey Jack tradition into a post COVID world.

GUNNING & CORMIER

Brockville Arts Centre

The Brockville Arts Centre Presents:
GUNNING & CORMIER

John Paul "J.P." Cormier, is a Canadian bluegrass/folk/Celtic singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. To date he has won thirteen East Coast Music Awards and one Canadian Folk Music Award. Cormier was born in London, Ontario and began playing guitar around age five.

Dave Gunning is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter born in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. Gunning credits the first live concert he ever observed, a 1981 double bill of John Allan Cameron and Stan Rogers, to be a major driving force in shaping the direction his life would take as a musician.

Gunning & Cormier go back 23 years when Dave had a fiddle player drop out of a show at the last minute. They played together and wrote together whenever they could, coming up with songs that graced both their projects, over the years showered with awards and nominations on the East Coast and national. Since they’ve been two of the busiest solo musicians in the country these past two decades, it’s been impossible to schedule time to make a full album and properly tour it. But that all changed three years ago when Cormier moved just down the road from Gunning in Nova Scotia’s Pictou County, and the pair were able to meet often at Gunning’s home studio. The album was called Two because that’s what it is, just the two of them.

Two is as real as it gets. Two songwriters, interpreters, guitar players, and singers at their peak. It’s the power of the song, the highest quality from the past to the now. It’s two friends, brothers, uncompromising performers, making the album of their lives. There couldn’t be a better time to discover Gunning & Cormier, and the power of Two.
